Our Projects

Elsie’s Project
Elsie’s Project is the first in-patient palliative care unit on the NSW Central Coast at Gosford Hospital, established by The Lions Club of Wyoming East Gosford Centennial after identifying the need for a dedicated facility almost 14 years ago. Work will begin this year.
The club received a $130,000 grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and combined this with their own fundraising efforts and community donations of approximately $500,000 to make the project a reality. Elsie’s Project officially opened in April 2021, providing essential care and comfort to palliative care patients and their families.

Getting Hitched Wedding Expo
The story of the Getting Hitched Wedding Expo began with the first meeting in 2007 and was the major Project for the Lioness Club of East Gosford. When the Club amalgamated with Wyoming Lions the Project moved across to this Club.
Over the past 16 years we have raised in excess of $300,000 to support our Major Project.

The main beneficiary of the Expo has always been Maya Cottage, a refuge for young women on the Central Coast. We have been able to assist the young women with a comfortable homelike environment, assist with their education needs and clothing for these past years.
How You Can Get Involved

- The Expo is held on the 3rd Sunday in June every year, with Sunday 16th June 2024, being the next date.

The World Festival of Magic
The Lions Club of Wyoming has been the proud hosts of this amazing production for over 30 years.
The money raised is to support a different chosen Central Coast Charity (the choice of the Club President each year). In the past Riding for the Disabled, East Gosford Primary School Playground Project, Glenvale Special School and many more.
The tickets are sold to local Businesses on the Coast who purchase a ticket which is given to young people on the Coast who are living with a disability or disadvantaged to enable them to enjoy a wonderful show of magic, music, and illusion.
It is wonderful! We are so grateful to be able to give these children this great opportunity every year.

Shirley’s Shuttle
In 2008 Lion Barb Galvin donated the first ‘Shirley Shuttle’ in memory of her Mother ‘Shirley Galvin’ (who died of cancer in 2006) to take transport-challenged cancer outpatients to and from local oncology treatment centres.
The service now has 4 vehicles. Each vehicle needs to be replaced at 100,000 kms ie around 2 to 2.5 years at over $30,000. In 2019, the Lions Clubs within the Central Coast Region raised funds that were matched by Australian Lions Foundation (ALF) to replace one of the four Shirley Shuttle vehicles, and in 2022 provided similar funding to replace that vehicle when it was due for replacement.

Fresh Water Well
For families living in poor, isolated villages, a community well is the only source of water for drinking, watering their animals, cooking, bathing, and washing clothes. If the well runs dry, or becomes contaminated, residents are at risk of dehydration or decease.
Our Club has been supporting this wonderful project for many years by simply collecting a $2 from each member every meeting into a coke bottle. And yes, it holds $600 when full! This will enable a village to build a well each year.

Supporting Meningococcal Research Annually
A member of our Club is the National Ambassador to the Meningococcal Association and we have hosted many events to support her in her mission to raise awareness and fund research about Meningococcal Disease.

School Scholarships
Each year 8 local Primary Schools are selected and awarded 2 scholarships to worthy students to assist them going forward to High School the following year.

HSC Students' Assistance
Members of our Club assist the students by scribing on their behalf with their final Exam.

Eye Tests for Primary
Club members have been trained to provide eye test on Primary School Children who may require further outside examinations.

Riding for the Disabled
This service is offered to children with disabilities to give them confidence, strength and enjoy the feeling of freedom on a horse. This is done during School Hours and our Club gives both financial and volunteer support to this wonderful Project at Kariong.

Food Donations
Regular donations of food are given to the local Food Banks on the Coast by our Club members.

Lap the Map
For the past few years our Lions Club has supported the Annual ‘Lap the Map for Diabetes Prevention’ by hosting family friendly walks and events to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the Diabetes epidemic in Australia. All funds raised were donated to go towards diabetes awareness, prevention and research. The intention each year is to walk a combined distance surpassing the circumference of Australia.

The Coast Walk
The Coast Walk, supported by Club members to raise funds and awareness. The beneficiary is renamed every year.

Cycling for Cancer Research
Cycling for Cancer Research to assist in childhood cancer.

Corporate Support
Donations
There are a number of ways your organisation could support us financially, and a number of ways we might be able to help you be recognised for your generosity. People ought to know that your business success benefits our community.
Staff Time
There’re great knock-on effects to allowing your staff one day per year to volunteer – it’s always a positive talking point about your organisation. Or perhaps when we have a weekend event and have a need for more boots on the ground, you could announce our need to your team?
Volunteers
This is probably the easiest (and lowest cost) way to support us. We will always need short term (for events) and long term (for project coordination) volunteers. Mention our need for volunteers into your normal communications with staff and customers.
